Six Reasons to Test & Tag

Six Reasons to Test & Tag

Although many businesses deliver Test and Tag services, it is not widely understood just how important the right solution can be. So we’re going to explain 8 key reasons that you may want to consider this safety service for your business.

What is Test & Tag?

Before that, we’ll first explain what it is all about.

Over time, your electrical appliances and cables suffer wear and tear. This could be due to knocks, drops, getting squeezed between furniture, degradation of insulating material, overheating and more.  However, this can lead to your appliance becoming dangerous to use. The danger is often not obvious. So if you use it in a particular manner, the item can cause electric shock or even death by electrocution.

A Test & Tag engineer will come to you.  We’ll use specialised equipment to test all appliances and cables to establish if they are safe to use. Then the engineer will tag each safe item. Tag details include when and by whom it was checked and found to be safe. If the item fails testing, then the engineer will inform you that the appliance is unsafe and needs repair or removal.

Test & Tag engineers also provide comprehensive itemised reports at the end of a job so you have official evidence of the work completed.

Your 6 Reasons to Test & Tag

  1. Helps to avert fires. Faulty cables or electrical appliances can result in a fire that would destroy your business.

  2. Improves employee engagement. Employees like to know that you care about their safety.  When they feel safe, they’ll be more loyal and productive. Show them you care with periodic Test & Tag sessions.

  3. Demonstrates compliance with industry Best Practice Many industries such have specific government regulators that assess a business’ commitment to best practice including safety precautions. Examples include ACECQUA’s National Quality Standard for ChildCare and ACQSC’s Aged Care Quality Standards for the Aged Care industry. Having a Test & Tag routine will go some way to demonstrating compliance with their published standards.

  4. Lowers the risk of SafeWork NSW fines and prosecution SafeWork NSW is the workplace health and safety regulator.  They can fine and prosecute employers for failing to maintain a safe work environment. By engaging a Test & Tag engineer, you’ll be complying with their guidelines pertaining to Australian Standard AS/NZS 3760. More information can be found here.

  5. Reduces insurance premiums Insurers like it when you lower risks.  Some insurers have been known to offer a premium discount for implementing an ongoing Test & Tag program.

  6. Averts injury and saves lives Electrical appliances with hidden wear and tear or faults can be dangerous.  By checking them, you may be averting a serious injury or even saving a life.
