As long as you’ve done the course, passed the test, bought the required equipment and learned the ropes then sure, anyone can test and tag! However, in our experience, unless you’re really fascinated by the intricacies of testing and tagging, you’re unlikely to do all of that properly.
Another hassle is the very expensive requirement to send off testing equipment annually. Also, there is the keyperson risk associated with training a team member who then chooses to move on to a new job.
A basic equipment kit to get you going should include a portable appliance tester (PAT), IEC cable, test probes, 3 phase test kit, label printer, labels, print ribbons. To give you an idea of budget, just a good PAT will cost well over $1,000.
Let’s face it, it may not be for everyone. Thankfully, SydTag have got you covered! Our experienced test engineers have studied all the details and passed independently set tests. We own specialist equipment that we maintain and calibrate on a regular basis. We’ll be where you need us when you need us!
By the way, if you’re really keen to do this yourself, we get trained by the team at NSW Electrical Test & Tagging and recommend their courses!
